Some very different types of necklines are asymmetric neckline is when there is just one strap running over a single the shoulder. One shoulder is totally bare with the inner side of the strap running in a straight line from the shoulder to the underside of the under arm. This is quite a stylish type of neckline for dresses and I think would suit you if you have an athletic build.
Bateau, Boat Neck Neckline
Also known as a boat neck, these different types of necklines are named that due to the boat hull shape of the neckline. Not your modern type off boat, more like noah’s ark as it bends delicately south of the collar bone towards the shoulders. Crossover Halter Style Neckline
A crossover neckline is where the straps come from the sides of the breasts and cross over each other at the front of the neck and sometimes joins at the back in a halter style. This is a great, not seen every day style and conjures up visions of a Grecian neckline. Which is kind of similar. I think this is probably best worn by small to medium breasted ladies with well formed arms. The cross over style would tend to bring the girls together and lift. If you have big breasts these types of necklines for dresses might feel a bit restrictive and flatten what you have. I try to find the most stylish types of necklines for dresses that attract attention and cant be bought in retail stores and this dress is quite cheap with 25% off for a limited time. This neckline dates from the fifteen hundreds and is straight across but with the shoulder strap a little off the shoulder at an angle to the straight edge of the bust line and this neckline usually looks good with long sleeves as it was in ancient times lol. This neckline is so dated that I could not find any modern styles that really use it. The last time it was seen was on Natalie Portman at the Royal Film Premier of the other Brooklyn Girl in 2008.
This type of neckline comes out from underneath the arms to the center of the chest and is twisted one hundred and eighty degrees and then tied behind the neck like a halter strap. I think this can be very sexy and reminds me of toga parties Lol. I think this style of neckline is perfect for voluptuous women especially if the dress itself lends itself to the toga style. It can be made of a superior fabric and the flowing robes can give hints of curves while still leaving much to the imagination, especially when the robes part to allow a flash of sexy leg. This style is rarely seen in modern times except at Toga Parties Lol.
A halter neck is where the dress or top comes inwards from the bust line leaving the shoulders bare, while encircling the neck. Halter necklines usually have a low cut or no back on the dress. These different types of necklines are a style which is great for taller women as well as those with broader shoulders, and is ideal for you if you have an athletic body. however I would not recommend this style neckline if you have very narrow shoulders. Nevertheless this is such a beautiful dress and is very cheap with a 5 star review. Click Here for prices.
A halter strap neckline is one of the different types of necklines that does not look anything like the halter neck in clothing or dress neckline styles which encircles the neck. An illusion neckline, sometimes called an illusion yoke is when a translucent material extends from the bust line to the neck, encircling the lower part of the neck. I think that due to the transparent nature of the fabric on an illusion neckline you should probably wear no bra or one in which the straps are not visible. If you have extra large breasts, this dress may not be suitable for you and perhaps should choose from dresses with different types of necklines. The dress pictured comes in other colors. Great for Bridesmaids or a prom. You will feel like a princess and stand out from the crowd. Its not easy to find a dress like this in a bricks and mortar store so why waste your time when its right in front of you. Want this? Click Here.

The dress or top or other clothing usually has no sleeves and the base of the neck to the shoulder point is usually covered unlike in the picture shown. This is a type of neckline where there is a teardrop or circular opening in the neckline, usually in the front and fastened at the top with a button. I don’t think this style is very common and I think that really it’s just a modification to a standard jewel neckline. I think this style would accentuate your neck if that’s your aim. Great to wear over a sheer top or bikini. Mesh embroidered clothing is a component of the latest fashion shows. Click Here for a price.
Off Shoulder, Bardot
Off the shoulder, also known as the Bardot neckline is where there are no straps over the shoulder and the shoulder from the neck to the points of the shoulder are totally bare. The straps are actually like falling off the shoulder and sit between the point of the shoulder and the bicep. This style can look good on most body types but I think this style neckline is nice if you have a big chest or have a pear like body shape. I don’t recommend this style if you have broad shoulders or big arms though. If you dont have big shoulders this would be perfect, and its quite cheap and easy to order online without stepping out the door. Click Here for more details.
This classic style is reminiscent of different types of necklines from the past and has the bottom two thirds of a pentagon in the shape. As it has 4 sides of a pentagon within the neckline it plunges fairly low and I think this would be good for you if you want to show a bit of cleavage. Alternatively if you want to be a bit more modest you could add lace to the decolletage. However it’s probably not the best choice for small breasted women. Click Here for a price on this.
The Queen Anne neckline is heart shaped over the breasts and has a kind of collar at the back like a halter style which gets wider as it wraps around the neck. Also known as a slash or a split, is one of those very different types of necklines where the notch neckline has a little V notch at the base of the collar which can be used on a plunging neckline or a more modest style of neckline that covers the chest. The little notch just adds an element of style to an otherwise boring neckline. I think it is up to you if you want this notch and the main thing you will consider is the plunge of the neckline and whether the notch adds something to that. Perhaps showing an extra bit of skin. The picture shown has three notches adding that extra touch of style. Click Here for a price.
This type of neckline is an a bit like a shawl. The style is off the shoulder, with the straps sitting just below the point and folding around the shoulder. The fabric usually crosses over below the V and is gathered below the breasts. The picture shown can be worn in the portrait style or normal as two different types of necklines for the one garment. Well ladies and now you know the difference between the many types of neckline for just about every dress or top and you are up to date with clothing neckline styles. There are other necklines associated with tops or more accurately shirts like the slash style neckline or whatever but I doubt whether any self respecting queen superstar would be wearing a shirt all that often.
Slashes, notches and splits can be used in dress styles to add a bit of variety to the classic necklines. I don’t give upper body type advice for every neckline style and leave it up to your own judgement. Just look for balance when you look in the mirror. Match your favorite neckline with a variation like the keyhole or a notch with your preferred type of dress style to get exactly what you want in a dress or top. You can even make up your own little variation of a keyhole or notch by using a different shape. My favorite neckline is the blouse with the 3 notches and deep v. Now that you are armed with this knowledge go out and Slay It Queen.
